TECHNIKON (TEC) is a private, independent, Austrian SME with a highly specialized multinational team of 20+ engineers and scientists. It is dedicated towards engineering services as well as the planning, assessment and coordination of large industry driven international research projects. Technikon will take a leadership role and contribute in WP8, WP9 and WP10. They will act as coordinator and perform the overall project and consortium management. TECHNIKON will be responsible for reporting, controlling, and assessment of the project progress. Management functions in this project are, the Coordinator, the dissemination lead and to provide the project management and web tools for internal and external communication, inclusive of the project webpage. Our RTD contributions in this project are technology projections and the economical investigations of different product tracks in the targeted application areas.
KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Electrical Engineering, Dept Micro and Nanosystems, is a leading European academic research group on micro/nanofabrication and micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), consisting of 50 staff members and PhD students. Current research focuses on RF/THz MEMS, optical-MEMS, Bio-MEMS, and medical MEMS. Close collaboration with Swedish and international industries has led to several successfully commercialized MEMS devices and spin-off companies. Scientific Leader (Prof. Joachim Oberhammer), will present the Car2TERA project at various dissemination events work package leader (WP4). Concepts, design, fabrication, and characterization of prototypes of micromachined sub-THz system for the primary and secondary demonstrators. Concepts, design, fabrication, and characterization of micromachined beam-steering front-end, both the static phased-array antennas and the MEMS phase shifters integrated in micromachined waveguides. Integration of MMICs into demonstrator microsystems and organization of the Car2TERA summer school.
Infineon Technologies is a globally operating company whose semiconductor and system solutions address three central needs of society: energy efficiency, mobility and security. Headquartered in Villach, Infineon Technologies Austria AG belongs to the Infineon Technologies Group. In the last decades it has established itself as a key, Austria-based company vested with global responsibilities. Thus, over recent years, Infineon has expanded its activities in Austria, particularly in the Automotive, Power Management and Industrial Power Control and Chipcard and Security business segments. In Car2TERA IFAT will provide the advanced SiGe process (B12HFC) along with the appropriate enhancements in the PDK to support beyond 200 GHz MMIC designs. Furthermore, IFAT will investigate its advanced eWLB packaging scheme to sustain operation in the sub-THz bands. IFAT is also responsible for the requirement analysis and application specifications.
The microwave electronics laboratory (MEL) at Chalmers University, Gothenburg, Sweden, with about 45 scientists and headed by Prof. Herbert Zirath, performs research related to telecommunications, radar and radio astronomy. The research projects involve frequencies from a few GHz up to 1 THz covering materials, fabrication, device modelling and associated processing including processing of circuits (MMIC). A particular emphasis is put on realization of novel high-speed circuits taking advantage of progress in materials science and/or new device concepts. Chalmers leading role will be conducted in WP2. The main tasks in the project is to design the SiGe BiCMOS integrated circuits for both demonstrators, and to design and fabricate Graphene based integrated circuits for the primary demonstrator. Chalmers will also investigate non-galvanic transitions from the integrated circuits to the Si-THz platform.
ENT, now operating under the VIGO Photonics brand, is a semiconductor epitaxy company that manufactures exceptionally high quality gallium arsenide (GaAs), indium phosphide (InP) related epitaxial structures for use in Quantum Cascade, VCSEL, Fabry-Perrot lasers, photodetectors, LEDs, transistors, photovoltaic cells and other devices. It also delivers graphene and other 2D materials for custom or short-run production to both commercial and R&D partners. The main task in the project is to develop and characterise high quality graphene on SiC, with high transport parameters, repeatability and uniformity, as required by sub-THz devices, developed in WP3. This will provide significant advance over existing sub-THz technologies operating at millimetre wave (mm-wave) frequencies. The devices are to be applied in the project´s system demonstrators realized within WP5 and WP6.
Founded in 1876 and headquartered in Stockholm, Ericsson is a global leading provider of ICT equipment and services to network operators and adjacent industries all around the world. Research & Development is at the heart of our business with approximately 24.000 employees. Ericsson engineers, researchers and scientists around the world are working on what’s next big thing with technology in focus. With more than 49.000 granted patents, we have one of the strongest intellectual property rights portfolios in the industry.
ANTERAL is an SME specialized in Antennas, Radar and THz technologies. ANTERAL is a spin-off company created in 2011, from the Antenna Group at the Public University of Navarra, UPNa, in Spain. The company is focussed on the development of high-performance antenna and RF components for different fields, such as aeroespace, telecommunications and security & defense which combines with the development of radar technology for new and innovative sectors. Within the Car2TERA project ANTERAL will work on the antenna concepts for both the primary and secondary applications. ANTERAL will analyse the phase-array antenna ideas for demonstrator 1, developing a frequency scanning solution for the car radar system. Moreover, Anteral will also contribute to the design of the micromachined platform for the THz-plastic interface for demonstrator 2 obtaining a solution for the transition between the micromachined waveguide and the THz-plastic fibre.
Veoneer is a world leader in automotive safety products. Our vision is Saving More Lives. Starting with the production of seat belts in the 1950's Veoneer is now also covering external and internal sensors with technologies like radar, vision, lidar, radio, gps and electronic systems for anti-lock brakes, stability control and belt and airbag control. With over 8,500 employees, Veoneer has development and production units in Europe, the Americas, Australia and Asia.
