Infineon Technologies Austria AG, AUSTRIA

Infineon Technologies is a globally operating company whose semiconductor and system solutions address three central needs of society: energy efficiency, mobility and security. Headquartered in Villach, Infineon Technologies Austria AG belongs to the Infineon Technologies Group. In the last decades it has established itself as a key, Austria-based company vested with global responsibilities. Thus, over recent years, Infineon has expanded its activities in Austria, particularly in the Automotive, Power Management and Industrial Power Control and Chipcard and Security business segments. In Car2TERA IFAT will provide the advanced SiGe process (B12HFC) along with the appropriate enhancements in the PDK to support beyond 200 GHz MMIC designs. Furthermore, IFAT will investigate its advanced eWLB packaging scheme to sustain operation in the sub-THz bands. IFAT is also responsible for the requirement analysis and application specifications.

CHALMERS Tekniska Hoegskola AB, SWEDEN

The microwave electronics laboratory (MEL) at Chalmers University, Gothenburg, Sweden, with about 45 scientists and headed by Prof. Herbert Zirath, performs research related to telecommunications, radar and radio astronomy. The research projects involve frequencies from a few GHz up to 1 THz covering materials, fabrication, device modelling and associated processing including processing of circuits (MMIC). A particular emphasis is put on realization of novel high-speed circuits taking advantage of progress in materials science and/or new device concepts. Chalmers leading role will be conducted in WP2. The main tasks in the project is to design the SiGe BiCMOS integrated circuits for both demonstrators, and to design and fabricate Graphene based integrated circuits for the primary demonstrator. Chalmers will also investigate non-galvanic transitions from the integrated circuits to the Si-THz platform.

VIGO Photonics S.A.

VIGO Photonics S.A. is a semiconductor epitaxy company that manufactures exceptionally high quality gallium arsenide (GaAs), indium phosphide (InP) related epitaxial structures for use in Quantum Cascade, VCSEL, Fabry-Perrot lasers, photodetectors, LEDs, transistors, photovoltaic cells and other devices. It also delivers graphene and other 2D materials for custom or short-run production to both commercial and R&D partners. The main task in the project is to develop and characterise high quality graphene on SiC, with high transport parameters, repeatability and uniformity, as required by sub-THz devices, developed in WP3. This will provide significant advance over existing sub-THz technologies operating at millimetre wave (mm-wave) frequencies. The devices are to be applied in the project´s system demonstrators realized within WP5 and WP6.
